„Back in the early 1980s, Dieter Rams was becoming increasingly concerned by the state of the world around him – “an impenetrable confusion of forms, colours and noises.” Aware that he was a significant contributor to that world, he asked himself an important question: is my design good design?

As good design cannot be measured in a finite way he set about expressing the ten most important criteria for what he considered was good design. Subsequently they have become known as the ‘Ten commandments’.“

In the documentary „Objectified“ Rams also expresses concern about the state of design and how right now there is only one company that really puts a lot of thought in the design of it’s products. That may not be completely true, but the overall picture is pretty grim and we do put up with a lot of bad design because we just don’t know better.

It’s been three days since the launch of Skype for iPhone and I just can’t keep myself from posting how immensely proud I am to have had a chance to work on such a brilliant product with the best team in the world. It is not nearly perfect and there is still a lot of work to do, but it’s a great start.

* That’s about six downloads per second, in case you are so used to large numbers as we are here at Skype. This is quite possibly one of the fastest-downloaded iPhone apps ever.
